Solving Conversion Problems Conversion factors are used to change a given measurement to some other unit of measure. A conversion factor is a ratio of equivalent measurements. It equals 1. 6. The function we need to integrate, is p 1+(−2x) 2+(−2y) = p 1+4(x2 +y2). Then we need to find the domain: since z = 1 − x2 − y2 ≥ 0, we get x2 + y2 ≤ 1. So it looks like it would be best to use polar coordinates. Now we can set up the. View Notes - _ lecture notesChemistry Lecture Notes Fall David E. ### Scavenging of ²³¹Pa and ²³⁰Th in the South Atlantic by Walter, Hans-JuМ€rgen. Download PDF EPUB FB2

The scavenging of ²³⁰Th, ²³¹Pa and ¹⁰Be was studied in the Pacific sector of the Southern Ocean along °W using measurements from surface sediments, time-series sediment traps, and. Results suggest that net transport southward of ²³⁰Th and ²³¹Pa across GEOVIDE is smaller than transport further south in the Atlantic, and indicates that the flux to sediment in the North.

The sedimentary ²³¹Pa/²³⁰Th ratios are always equal to or greater than the seawater production ratio (), consistent with enhanced biological scavenging in this region. The radionuclides ²³¹Pa and ²³⁰Th, produced in the water column and removed from the ocean by particle scavenging and burial in sediments, offer a means for paleoceanographers to examine.

The strength of Atlantic meridional overturning circulation is believed to affect the climate over glacial-interglacial and millennial timescales. The marine sedimentary ²³¹Pa/²³⁰Th ratio is a promising paleocirculation proxy, but local particle effects may bias individual reconstructions.

Holocene ²³¹Pa/²³⁰Th ratios show a very significant variation by depth, with strong export of ²³¹Pa at deep sites but little or no export at shallow sites, a result which echoes findings for the South Atlantic.

(This is Problem 9 on page of the book.) Answer: The formula for the arc length of a graph is L = Z b a p 1+[f0(x)]2 dx. In our case we have f0(x) = x2 − 1 4 x−2 = x2 − 1 4x2. This gives us [f0(x)]2 = x2 − 1 4x2 2 = [x2]2 +2[x2] −1 4x2 + − 1 4x2 2 = x4 − 1 2 + 1 16x4 We can then compute that 1+[f0(x.
